Families are hurting. Through extensive athletic coaching, in-school mentoring and detailed research, Gameday Coffee Founder, Todd Melloh, knows why. A major cause of the pain results when a child misses quality time with his or her father. The impact of a weak or nonexistent relationship with the father reveals the following:
The Fatherless Homes Statistics
of youth suicides are from fatherless homes
of all homeless and runaway children are from fatherless homes
of all children that exhibit behavioral disorders come from fatherless homes
of rapists motivated with displaced anger come from fatherless homes
of all high school dropouts come from fatherless homes
of juveniles in state operated institutions come from fatherless homes
of all youths sitting in prisons grew up in a fatherless home
more likely to marry as teenagers
more likely to have children as teenagers
more likely to be a single parent
more likely to divorce if they even marry
Boys are more likely than girls to commit crimes and to be a victim of violent crime. The Department of Justice estimates that more than 90 percent of gang members in large cities are boys. And by the age 18, boys are 17 times more likely than girls to be in jail or prison.
"Many young people today are growing up with a single parent in a single parent home. And too many boys are growing up without fathers. Coaches and male teachers make great, great role models for boys. We must encourage more men to step up."
